Set In Motion

the Pattern
Rated 2 out of 5 on the scale of Beginner to Intermediate. The pattern is beginner friendly but requires some organization.
Rated 2 out of 5 on the scale of Hours to Days. I use strip piecing methods and batch sewing to efficiently piece the blocks.
Generous yardage amounts are given, there is enough to make a scrappy binding for the quilt.
Sub block and Blocks are clearly labeled and shown in the pattern. The pattern opens with a chart of the blocks you are making and how many you need to make.
Easy to follow cutting and piecing instructions for both pattern sizes.
Pressing directions are shown for each step.
Blank colouring pages are included in both quilt sizes so you can create your own unique look.
The Story
Have you ever had a project that just takes off and takes you along for an unexpected ride? That’s exactly what happened with Set In Motion. It started as an idea for a summer “design-a-long” series that I released on YouTube in 2024. Little did I know, this design would be the catalyst that set in motion an entirely new chapter in my quilting life. I’ve never really worked from a pattern, I like to do my own thing! My patterns were a haphazard collection of papers with notes, diagrams, and instructions that were always out of order, falling behind something and never where I needed it. I kept hearing about a pattern writing course in my favourite quilting podcast and decided that I needed to sign up when the course opened up again. In the fall of 2024, I enrolled in the course and used Set In Motion as my class project. I learned how to transform my messy notes into a real pattern that was easy to follow (and in one place - on my computer!).
As you are making this quilt, I invite you to reflect on your own “Set In Motion” events and the future events you are hoping for yourself and the quilt recipient. I would love to hear your stories and see pictures of your quilt. You can share them privately or they can be featured on my website or a future email newsletter.
